Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Companion Paws Kitchen is a free educational recipe website operated by Companion Paws Canada. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in keeping with Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA.

2. You can browse anonymously

You do not need an account to read recipes, use the filters, use the recipe builder, or view and print our ebooks. If you never sign in, we do not collect your name or email address.

3. Information we collect

• Account information. If you create an account we store your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google we receive your email address, name, and profile picture from Google. We never see or store your Google password.
• Your saved content. The recipes you mark as favorites, and any recipes our recipe builder writes and you choose to save, are stored against your account so you can find them on any device and compile them into your own ebook.
• Recipe builder input. The ingredients, life stage, and cooking style you choose are sent to our recipe writing service to produce a suggestion. We do not use these entries to identify you.
• Recipe edits. If you are signed in and add or change recipe content, that change is recorded with your account.
• Technical information. Our hosting and backend providers record standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, for security and reliability.

We do not collect payment information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

4. How we use your information

• to sign you in and keep you signed in across devices;
• to store and show your favorites and saved builder recipes;
• to build your personal printable ebook;
• to send account emails such as confirmation and password reset;
• to keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems;
• to understand in general terms which pages are useful, so we can improve the library.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade it to advertisers.

5. Service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the site: a website hosting provider, a backend provider that stores accounts, favorites, and recipes and sends account emails, Google for optional Google sign in, and an AI provider that generates recipe suggestions from the choices you make in the recipe builder. These providers process data on our behalf, and some of them store or process it outside Canada, including in the United States, where local laws may allow lawful access by authorities.

6. Cookies and browser storage

We use cookies and browser storage only for things the site needs to work: keeping you signed in, remembering your session, and remembering small display preferences. We do not use advertising or cross site tracking cookies. Clearing your browser storage will simply sign you out.

7. How long we keep information

We keep your account information and saved recipes for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to close your account, we delete your account record, your favorites, and your saved builder recipes. Server logs are kept for a short period by our providers for security purposes.

8. Security

The site is served over encrypted connections, passwords are stored hashed, and access rules on our database restrict your favorites and saved recipes so only your own account can read or change them. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

9. Your rights and choices

You may ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you may withdraw consent and close your account at any time. You can also remove individual favorites and saved recipes yourself from your Favorites page. To make a request, contact us using the details below, and we will respond within a reasonable time.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
